"Happy poets who write found poetry go pawing through popular culture like sculptors on trash heaps. They hold and wave aloft usable artifacts and fragments: jingles and ad copy, menus and broadcasts—all objet trouvés." —Annie Dillard
Discover poetry in everyday objects! Join poet and editor Kristen Renee Miller for a 'found poetry' workshop inspired by the sculpture art of Liora Kaplan. Participants will use found texts to inspire new forms, using a variety of materials and techniques including erasure, cento (patchwork), and collage.
Optionally, participants are invited to bring to any 'found text' artifacts they may wish to use: print ads, junk mail, a page from a book or magazine, or other! Art supplies and found texts will also be provided.
Kristen Renee Miller is the director and editor-in-chief at Sarabande Books. An award-winning poet and translator, she is a 2023 NEA Fellow and the translator of two books of poetry from the French by Ilnu Nation poet Marie-Andrée Gill.
